FAQs

Sooooo... you might have some questions about our product... Here are some questions asked about Mayan Spit. If the answer to your question isn't here, please email us, and we will attempt to answer your question as amicably as possible!

Q: Is your product reef safe?
A: YES!! Mayan Spit is safe for ALL environments!

Q: Is your product harmful to animals?
A: Due to animal testing being unlawful pretty much everywhere, we couldn't conduct testing to find out conclusively... Which is a good thing! What we CAN tell you, is that ALL of the ingredients in Mayan Spit CAN be consumed, but it would taste extremely horrible and could result in a tummy ache or vomiting at the worst! We highly suggest you keep this product out of reach of all animals, as ALL animals may react differently to the ingredients or even be allergic to them!

Q: Is your product harmful to humans/children?
A: Just as our answer to the previous question, we haven't conducted testing to figure this out exactly. Again, we can tell you that ALL ingredients CAN be consumed, but it will taste horrible and likely end up in a tummy ache or vomiting at the worst! We DO suggest you keep this product out of reach of young children, to prevent a miserable few hours for them. The child(ren) might also be allergic to one or all of the ingredients.

Q: Is your product harmful to aquatic wildlife?
A: Just as our previous 2 answers, we haven't purposefully conducted testing to figure this out. We HAVE, however, indirectly figured out that Mayan Spit is not likely harmful to aquatic wildlife. It may make them a little miserable in the form of tummy aches, but nothing worse than that. How do we know? Welp, firstly, they consume worse things that humans put into the water than Mayan Spit, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, during the course of our initial testing of the product in real life scenarios, some aquatic wildlife were attracted to and did consume a little of the product, and others immediately spit it out. We took note of these critters, just in case. We did revisit these very spots where we found these same critters still around to greet us to their lovely home!

Q: HELP!! YOUR PRODUCT SSSSTIIINKS!! MY MASK FOGGED UP AFTER I APPLIED IT!!
A: We are sorry to hear this! I hate to sound condescending, but are you sure your mask is prepared properly? as with ALL anti-fog products, an improperly prepared mask, will still fog up regardless of the product you use. Sometimes it takes multiple preparations, for your mask to not fog up while using our or anyone else's product.

Q: STILL NOT WORKING! My coated lens is STILL FOGGING UP!!! Your product still sucks!
A: OOF!! We are so sorry... Ok, so check this out...we can remedy this as well!! As with ALL products, sometimes we end up finding out that there's a few... well... Undesirable hiccups... This happened to be one of them! Unfortunately, we have found that these coated lenses can't be properly prepared like clear lenses can. As such, it has caused us some trouble. Due to the nature of the coatings on these specialty lenses, you will have to apply Mayan Spit more often. We wish this wasn't the case, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. What we have found works the best with these coated lenses, is to apply Mayan Spit as you would with clear lenses, BUT, when you wash the compound away, do NOT wash it thoroughly. Leave a little film on the inside of the lens. You shouldn't have any more issues with fogging. If you do, it is the coating on the lens which is interfering with the ability of Mayan Spit to properly do it's job.

Q: Is your product supposed to look like this?
A: Look like what? Neon yellow with a lemony fresh scent? YES!!

Q: HEEEEELP!! My Mayan Spit looks like a bunch of pale yellow dirt under a sea of neon yellow water, and it is hard!
A: AHAAAA!! Welp, looks like your Mayan Spit has a case of swamp.... Oh... Sorry... Wrong place... What has happened to your Mayan Spit, is ingredient separation. This is ABSOLUTELY normal. Think of it kind of like that Italian dressing in your fridge that you haven't touched in a while... all the delicious spices and such kind of just sinks to the bottom... Same thing with Mayan Spit! All you need to do, is introduce some air into your Mayan Spit packaging by flipping up the flip top, OR loosening the cap. After that, shake the package vigorously, or gently. the ingredients will mix back together. If you are in a bind and need it now, don't fret! That neon liquid? Yeah, that can be used too. It still contains some of the ingredients that give your mask anti-fog properties! You will just lose the gentle grittiness that efficiently removes the layer of salt and dirt from your mask.

Q: What is the tiny grit I see when washing out my mask after applying Mayan Spit?
A: That is some of the gritty stuff from the Mayan Spit itself. This is absolutely normal. Sometimes the product finds its way into hard to reach nooks and crannies due to overapplication of the product. Rinse a few times, and this should mostly disappear. Even if there is a little bit of material left behind, you'll still have a nice and clear mask!

Q: When I fly, I carry on all of my dive gear... Will airport security let me bring my Mayan Spit through the security line?
A: Although we can NOT speak for foreign countries, we CAN speak for America, and the answer is... UNDOUBTEDLY YES!! Your Mayan Spit packaging meets the requirements of 3.4 ounces (roughly 100ml) or less! You shouldn't have any issues, although, we cannot guarantee against an overzealous TSA agent going all authoritarian on you. In our travels, we have found that everything is ok. One other thing you can do, is to dry the product out well before taking your trip. You can do this by allowing the ingredients to settle, then pouring out the liquid. Leave the top off the container, and the paste inside will dry up. When you reach your destination, simply reconstitute it by adding back an equal amount of distilled water, and kneeding it well until all the chunks become a nice and smooth consistency. It is important to use the same amount of water as you poured out. If you can't access distilled water, just use tap water. It will work basically the same, but you will get water scale on your mask.
